Bonjour mes amies! It’s Sofi here. As some of you know, I used to live in the beautiful French countryside near Paris. I still miss strolling through the farmer’s markets there, hearing the church bells ring through the quaint villages, and smelling the fresh scents of flowers in the spring air. It was such an inspiring time!
But most of all, I miss the French style… How minimalist, understated, and yet so feminine it is.
Even now that I live in a completely different country, spring still makes me think of charming France – the icon of style. So especially in spring, I always want to refresh my style and try new fashion trends.
And here we are trying to go with the flow of new spring trends so that we always look young and fresh!
Casual spring 2024 fashion trends
As women over 40, we want to look and feel our best, right? But we’re also busy taking care of our families, managing our careers, and balancing our busy lives. Who has time to flip through fashion magazines?
That’s why I’ve selected the top style trends for Spring 2024 that are flattering, easy to wear, and perfect for us busy, fabulous women over 40.
Yes, of all the hair trends, I chose the ones that look good on women over 40. Because I don’t think some of us will really try the micro-shorts trend, for example))).
I can’t wait to share them with you!
#1 Burgundy Accents
Let’s start with the HUGE trend for everything in the color of burgundy.
You can’t go wrong with rich burgundy tones and accents in your spring style. This sophisticated color instantly elevates basics like simple shift dresses, button-downs and tees when worn as a pop of color.
To really embrace the head-to-toe burgundy trend, try a fitted dress, midi skirt or pants paired with matching strappy heels. So sophisticated yet striking!
It’s a truly universal color that you can use to accent all your looks (even minimalist ones).
#2 Polo Shirts
Another throwback that’s making a comeback is the polo shirt, and it’s as preppy-chic now as it was decades ago. Button-down polos feel fresher for spring in loose, breathable linen, cotton and jersey fabrics.
Laid-back polos look so cute peeking out from under midi skirts, dresses or sweaters. Dress them up by tucking them into pleated trousers or skirts.
Finish with minimal jewelry and sneakers or loafers for an effortless look.
#3 Leather Outerwear
And it’s not just jackets – trench coats, bombers and blazers are all part of the mix.
A moto or bomber jacket in leather, suede or faux leather is the epitome of effortless cool.
Throw one over flowy maxi dresses and skirts to balance feminine pieces with edge.
For the weekend, layer your leather jacket over jeans and T-shirts. Finish with booties or sneakers for a casually polished look that works for running errands or grabbing brunch with the girls.
#4 Slouchy slacks
Say goodbye to stiff work pants and hello to slouchy slacks. Flowy, breathable fabrics like linen make slacks comfortable and casual.
Try high-waisted, wide-legged slacks for a borrowed-from-the-boys look, or aim for cropped lengths. Cinch slouchy pants in at the waist with belts. Then pair with tucked-in button-downs, fitted tops and delicate accessories.
#5 See-through skirts
If you’re feeling adventurous, try the sheer skirt trend! Pair a sheer midi skirt with a high-waisted body or fitted tank. The peek-a-boo effect is subtly sexy.
Layer a sheer skirt over shorts, long jackets or wide-legged pants to add floaty movement and intrigue to casual looks. Start with soft mesh fabrics to ease into this daring trend that’s big for spring.
It was widely seen in the Miu Miu, Carven, Prada, Givenchy shows, so this trend is going to be HUGE!
#6 The white dress
Nothing says spring style like the perfect white dress. From eyelet lace to crocheted styles, airy sundresses are perfect for warmer weather.
Pair white dresses with leather jackets, minimalistic accessories and block sandals for casual chic. A sexy bodycon or wrap dress in white also works for formal occasions. Be a radiant spring goddess!
#7 Light colored suits
They are going to be huge this spring. I’ve been loving pantsuits in soft pastels and neutrals lately. They have a crisp, tailored look, but feel much more modern and younger than your average black or navy suit.
By the way, there were some oatmeal suits in The Row and Victoria Beckham’s fashion shows.
The lighter tones are softening and work on all skin tones. And that’s what we’re all looking forward to after 40, right?))
Just pair your suit with a simple t-shirt and sneakers for a casual look, or add a colorful cami or t-shirt, strappy heels and contemporary jewelry for an effortlessly chic vibe. Ooh la la!
#8 Bermuda Shorts
Long Bermuda shorts are back in a big way this spring! We saw a lot of these at the Prada, Loewe or Victoria Beckham shows, and they are a perfect alternative to those Miu Miu micro shorts.
They’re easy to dress up or down. I especially love pairing them with wedges or block heels and a tucked-in bodysuit or flowy tank for a leg-lengthening vibe.
High-waisted Bermudas also look so chic with oversized blazers and menswear-inspired pieces. Be bold with bright colors and fun patterns to really own this ’90s revival.
#9 Metallic Shine
Yes, Pinterest also predicts that this trend will be HUGE this year: all over your life, starting with your home decor and ending with your outfits.
And it’s not just about metallic shoes, bags or jewelry, but pants, dresses and skirts that will add an instant glam factor this spring. Silver, gold and rose gold tones work effortlessly with pastels, brights and earth tones in your wardrobe.
Iridescent metallics also catch the light beautifully. Work in shine through shoes, purses and statement earrings for an easy dose of glitz and glam. Don’t be afraid to shine all season long, mes amies!
#10 Mule Heels
Mules are still going strong for Spring 2024! The backless heel lengthens the legs and shows off your pretty pedicure.
Try mules with everything from long maxi dresses to cropped pants. Block and kitten heels make mules comfortable enough to wear all day. Pair these heels with dresses, skirts and pants for instant modern style.
#11 Green Runway
Green is totally taking over in spring 2024 fashion, ladies!
This refreshing, nature-inspired color instantly lifts your look. Plus, it looks flattering on just about everyone.
Wear head-to-toe green for a standout moment. A flowy emerald dress or mint pantsuit looks so chic. Or use fun green accessories like bags, shoes and jewelry to brighten up basic outfits.
Basically, green is your new go-to neutral for spring. Stock up on key pieces in yummy green shades. This trend is fresher than ever this season!
#12 90s Minimalism
The simple, pared-back aesthetic of the ’90s is back in a big way this spring. Think simple slip dresses, skinny straps, cropped tops and clean, minimal silhouettes. Essential pieces include high-waisted, relaxed jeans, ribbed tank tops and no-frills basics in muted, neutral tones.
For a sophisticated ’90s vibe, try a bias-cut maxi skirt with a tucked-in tee or tank paired with a longline duster coat or overshirt. Or keep it casual with straight leg jeans, a cropped hoodie and sneakers. Stick to one statement accessory like hoops or a top-handle bag. By focusing on simple, unfussy pieces in complementary tones, you can nail the 90s minimalist look.
#13 Clutch Bags
When it comes to handbags, structured clutches add a dose of polish to any outfit. Neutral colors, no patterns and no standard shapes – and you’ve given your outfits a modern breath of life.
WARNING – these are not evening clutches! The only requirement is that there are no handles and that they are carried stylishly under the arm.
